September 2022 Portfolio Update

Posted on October 1, 2022 by invspot

September went by rather quickly, with school starting back up and summer coming to an end the daily grind was settling back in. It was not a pleasant month for market in general, the Dow closed the month at 28,725.51 a -8.83% decline and the S&P finished at 3585.62 a -9.33% decline from previous month. My dividend portfolio had a 8.5% decline. Through out this year as the market has been taking a beating I am pleased to say that my portfolio has outperformed, although it’s down like 99.99% of every investor, it’s faired slightly better than the indexes.

The quarter ending months – March, June, September, December are always great for dividends. A majority of companies follow this payout schedule as do all ETF’s & Mutual Funds.

I received $708.07 in dividend payments from 24 companies with the largest payout coming from ETF  SCHD :

  • AFL $17.60
  • BAC $22.10
  • HD $9.50
  • INTC $19.35
  • JNJ $11.30
  • KR $5.20
  • LMT $28
  • MMM $37.25
  • MSFT $16.12
  • NVDA $0.32
  • O $9.98
  • PEP $28.75
  • PFE $0.11 ( CC assigned)
  • SCHD $240.92
  • SNA $31.24
  • STAG $6.30
  • TROW $60
  • TSCO $17.48
  • UNP $1.30
  • V $8.63
  • VTI $31.31
  • VYM $39.17
  • WBA $48.54
  • XOM $17.60

you can check my dividend payout history here .

During the month I added to my positions in :

  • BEN 5 shares
  • TXN 1 share
  • UNP 2 shares
  • V 1 share
  • AOS 1 share

Investing $966.50 and adding $23.42 in forward dividends.

I continued to add 1 share per week of  GOOG @ $423.49 an average price of $105.87.  Google has declined along with the market, I’m up to 30 shares and will keep investing on the way down. Last month my average price was $117 compared to this months $105 and currently the stock price sits at $96.15. DCA’ing will help bring my cost basis down over time.

My Top 10 holding for the month remained unchanged.

September Top 10
MSFT 4.4%
KMB 4.2%
TROW 3.8%
V 3.2%
SNA 3.2%
PFE 3.2%
PEP 3.0%
VZ 2.8%
JPM 2.8%
LMT 2.8%

Now for the month of September we had 6 companies declare a dividend increase. This is how future dividend payments snowball into larger amounts with no added capital. Your initial investment remains the same but the quarterly or monthly payments go up over time. With these increase my future dividend payments increased by $30.35. Combined with my monthly additions to my holdings I have increased my dividends by $53.77 per year.

Ticker Increase Old Payout New Payout  1 Yr CAGR
Verizon VZ 0.0125 0.64 0.6525 1.95%
Realty Income O 0.236 0.248 0.61%
Texas Instruments TXN 0.09 1.15 1.24 7.83%
Microsoft MSFT 0.06 0.62 0.68 9.68%
Starbucks SBUX 0.04 0.49 0.53 8.16%
Lockheed Martin LMT 0.20 2.80 3.00 7.14%

My Options income for September dropped substantially to $256. I was assigned early in the month on three positions and the tumble took the prices way below my assigned price. I will have to wait it out until they climb a bit closer to my assigned price before I begin writing covered calls. I could write calls a few months out to collect some premiums but I prefer to wait.
